Mt. Palendöken, Mt. Erciyes, Saklikent, Uludag-COLD TURKEY-Even many active skiers have no idea that skiing exists in Turkey. There are, in fact, quite a number of ski areas with lifts, including Palandöken in eastern Turkey, which has a vertical drop of around 1000 meters and a season that goes well into May. As well as Palandöken, this article describes the skiing at the extinct volcano, Erciyes, the small ski area of Saklikent, only 1.5 hours from the Mediterranean, and Turkey’s most developed resort in Uludag. Skiing in Turkey is an experience filled with oddities, quite unlike a vacation in the Alps, and the article takes in the unique aspect of the Turkish experience.
