KASHMIR

Heliski-IN SEARCH OF THE YETI WITH SYLVAIN SAUDAN-I visited the famous Swiss extreme skier at his heliskiing operation in Srinigar, India, and true to form, life is never dull with Sylvain. He had recently spotted strange tracks in the snow, which he photographed and sent to research centers in various countries. He received the reply of “unknown species”’ but Sylvain is convinced that the tracks belonged to the yeti. This story includes information about Sylvain’s yeti experience as well as details about our skiing, our survival of a terrifying avalanche, and the description of the “war zone” of Kashmir. Tens of thousands of armed troops were posted all over Srinigar, and our “five star” hotel resembled something from downtown Beirut in the eighties. But in spite of all this, Kashmir, with its houseboats and gondola-like shikaras floating around Lake Daal, is still a fascinating spot of unrivaled beauty. Since this trip, Sylvain has suspended operation to wait for more peaceful times. The status of the operation for the upcoming season is undecided.
