KAZAKHSTAN, KYRGHYZSTAN, AND UZBEKISTAN

Kashka Su, Kashka Su (2), Kizil-Beles, Oru-Suy, Beldersai, and Chimbulak-THE GUIDE TO SKIING IN SOVIET ASIA-This article is broken into sections of Kazakhstan, Kyrghyzstan, Uzbekistan. The sort of skiing is an infant, but the mountains of the Tien Shan section of the Himalayas are certainly not baby size. Skiing here is in the pioneer stage that it was in the U.S. and the Alps in the late 1930s and early 1940s. It is primarily a world of one and two-lift resorts, antiquated rope tows and single chair lifts, and rock strewn dirt roads. Skiing has not yet become an industry, but is available to those who have a love for the sport. The infrastructure may be lacking, but that is made up for by the big-hearted people and the mountains, which rank with the best in the world.
