POWDER LINES AND LAND MINES-FREERIDING IN SARAJEVO-In
1984, the Winter Olympic Games were hosted by Sarajevo, and the
ski resort of Bjelasnica was the main venue for downhill skiing.
Today, the first thing a skier notices upon walking into the day
lodge at the base of Bjelasnica Mt. is a big map titled, Mine
Contamination Map. Fortunately, we did not inadvertently
uncover any such relics of the war. We did enjoy powder skiing
in the trees and ON the Olympic ski jump at the nearby resort
of Igman! We also visited Jahorina, the third ski area serving
the Sarajevo region. It was here that we required the aid of a
local farmer and his unregistered Lada after an off-piste adventure
got us lost at the end of the ski day.
