BULGARIA AND RUMANIA

Vitosha, Borovets, Bansko, Sinaia, and Poiana Brasov-BALKAN HOLIDAY-When Christer Henning and I set out to tour the Rumanian resorts of Poiana Brasov and Sinaia and the Bulgarian ski areas of Vitosha, Borovets, and Bansko, we knew we would also visit Dracula’s castle near Brasov, which we did. We thought we might have some unusual experiences typical of Eastern Europe, which we also did. We did not know, however, that we would get three speeding tickets the first day in Bulgaria. We did not know that a prostitute we thought was a hitchhiker would jump into our car and sit on my lap. We did not know that our car would be stolen, leading us through a maze of East Bloc bureaucracy. We also did not know that we would meet some extremely kind East Europeans who would help us through our problems, and show us some of the best off-piste skiing in the East in a show of kindness and friendship that will not be soon forgotten.
