ICELAND

Blåfjöll, Akureri, Dalvik, Isafjördur, Vatnajökull- A SKI VACATION IN ICELAND OR
A GUIDE TO SKIING IN THE “GREENHOUSE AGE”-This country of 103,000 square kilometers is virtually covered from ocean to ocean with ice and snow during the winter. It has about 250,000 citizens who are some the friendliest people in the world, and about a dozen small ski areas. The ski centers are basically non-profit operations, supported by tax money, as a community service for the local villages. Our experiences included getting pulled on skis behind a snowmobile at 100 k.p.h. and skiing on Vatnajökull Glacier, a glacier which is larger than the combined land mass of all of Europe’s other glaciers. The trip is climaxed when we are flown to various peaks in a 190 kilo home made private airplane, from where we make first descents in some very steep couloirs.
