MT. BACHELOR, TIMBERLINE, MT. HOOD

Mt. Bachelor and Timberline, Oregon-THE VOLCANOES OF OREGON-This article describes the unique skiing which exists in the Cascade range of Oregon, where a weak line in the Earth’s crust has produced a long string of volcanoes all along the west coast of North and South America. Among these volcanoes are some on which there are ski resorts. Timberline, Oregon is a resort on Mt. Hood, a live volcano and the most climbed glaciated peak in North America. Another interesting feature here is the historic Timberline Lodge, a beautiful traditional hotel built in the 1930s and used in Stanley Kubrick’s film, “The Shining”. Timberline is also one of only two locations for summer skiing in North America. Not far away is Mt. Bachelor, another live volcano, where one can ski a full 360 degrees around the cone shaped peak.
